This new eatery pop-up located in Auckland’s Viaduct Harbour is a “must” on one’s Auckland Eats list, no question.  I loved the cosy interior and atmosphere of this place – by opening up the kitchen, Simon Gault’s concept is to make his guests feel like they are about to enjoy their home cooked meal as if they’re eating at someone’s home, a modern home with each chair, each table, each plate are all tailor made. I especially love their timber table where a silver fern is being beautifully sculptured on. I also found the menu at Giraffe particularly short and simple with a few items only as was the matching wines list; but each item is very unique at the level it is.

Duck livers were delivered in the form of biscuit with a thin slice of Prosicuto on top, as our starter. We both found the crab & king prawn was particularly good here – very creamy sour at first but quite addictive as we went on. Along with our Trevally dish were superb home cured dose of plum sauce, mushroom and crispy kumara which was such a wonderful touch.

We had Roasted Lamb Shoulder, Potato Gratin cooked with shiitake mushroom and Creamed Spinach topped with pinenut as our main. Perfectly cooked, tender and juicy lamb was served with what we thought was sun-dried tomato sauce, along with a very fascinating combination of spinach, fresh oregano, tomato, parsley and rocket.

The waiter said these 2 desserts are just fine master pieces of art, so we had them and did not regret at all

Overall, 9/10 for their concept, design, menu design and food. We will come back for their Pork tail and shared roasted chicken the next time.
