On the 25th of February my partner – Ryan and I dined out in the luxurious Sky city Masu Japanese restaurant. Entering the establishment we were warmly welcomed by the host and taken to our table where there was a lot of hustle and bustle as other diners enjoyed the authentic Japanese atmosphere around us. As you walk through the restaurant you pass by a big open kitchen divided into hot and cold dish sections. No sign of a microwave , which is good we thought, and most of the chefs are Japanese.

We started the night off with some Japanese tap beers but we would still highly recommend Asahi  – a beautiful blonde with clean and crisp taste. We started with edamame, followed by a 3 piece sashimi platter consisting of Ora king salmon, king fish and tuna. Ah, Masu served fresh wasabi and for those who have never have it before, it tasted nothing like the one you buy from the shops. Later on we were served wasabi mayo, which we mostly ate with everything else we ordered.
Soft shell crab was the reason why we wanted to try this place out.It turned out it wasn’t the top dish of the day or as we expected. Maybe because I do not prefer having too much sesame seeds – which was the coating. Having said that, it was over-fried a bit. I was sad.

The biggest surprise was the crispy fried squid w green chilli and lime – flavorful and…lavish. Ryan ended up taking away the left overs, he just couldn’t have enough !

(Sorry for the bad quality photos, we will take better photos with a digital camera next time)

For the main course we went all out and had 150grams of the finest black wagyu cooked medium rare – We would not recommend this type of beef to be cooked to medium though, and its best to have it when it is still hot.

We highly recommend the crispy fried squid with Asahi tap beer as it’s a perfect Moorish bar snack as well as the wagyu cooked medium rare as the main course.
We will definitely be back to dine again soon.
